An epic, optimised website for a creative small business podcast

for The Building your Brand Podcast

A website so good, we exhibited it at The Podcast Show. Packed full of features to showcase guests, grow the Building your Brand audience, and monestise.

The project

Building your Brand is one of the UK's leading small business podcasts, hosted by brand & graphic designer and friend of Studio Cotton, Liz Mosley.

With over 100 episodes, Liz wanted to give her podcast way more space and add some consistent structure - something that just wasn't possible within the previous Squarespace blog compromise.

We were tasked with showcasing the best of this well renowned business podcast, attracting more monetisation opportunities, all whilst keeping website admin to a minimum.

The story

Liz pretty much gave us free rein (aside from the aesthetics and design elements) so that we could apply all of our expertise from business websites, with some extra exciting features just for podcast websites.

We like to approach a podcast website similarly to an online shop, except the "products" are the podcast episodes. With ecommerce, it's important to spread emphasis across products - not just what's new, or what's already popular.

We created a whole host of custom features and structure to make a website that's useful for listeners, straightforward, and with ample space to feature guests and sponsors.

The latest episode header card

For regular listeners who just wanna dig into the latest podcast episode, there's no need to go on a web page hunt. Heck, ya don't even need to scroll.

This compact episode card lives in the main navigation, and can be found in the header of every gosh darn website page. Well, apart from the homepage where it's dynamically hidden so we're not doubling up on the hero banner. Lovely jubbly.

Episode page self-promotions

Every gosh-darn episode page contains a promotion for one of Liz' courses, services, or programmes to make sure this podcast website has plenty of links to commercial content.

What's more, when there's a launch on the horizon, every single promo space can be updated in a literal couple of clicks. No more faffing with 1,000 Squarespace pages, this site takes full advantage of WordPress' custom content and dynamic content population.

Logos for everyone with the Guest Media page

This might be designer Aime's favourite feature, created following her own frustration with tracking down podcast logos and cover art following her own podcast appearances.

The Guest Media page is a hidden page sent directly to Building your Brand interviewees, sharing everything they need to promote the podcast and make it easier than ever for Liz to tottle up those SEO backlinks.

A fully monetised reading list

Each book in Liz' small business reading list is linked to the relevant podcast episode and its guest to maximise internal links and give us the best possible chance of maximising website engagement and pages per visit.

They're also hooked up to monetised links from Liz' chosen affiliate network, ensuring a lil kickback that supports the podcast each time a listener completes a purchase.

Better than I could ever have imagined. There are features that I would never have even thought to ask for, and it makes me so proud to promote the podcast.

The Building your Brand Podcast
Launched Summer 2024

We launched the Building Your Brand podcast website in summer 2024, showcasing it at The Podcast Show to hundreds of visitors - and we were overwhelmed with the positive response from podcast industry professionals.

Liz even secured an incredible podcast sponsor off the back of her new website, with our stand neighbours, online podcast studio Riverside.
